The Sacred World Music Choir
We are a Margaret River community based women’s choir (about 25-30 women), singing songs from cultures all over the world. Recently, we were gifted songlines from Josie Alec, Traditional Healer, songline keeper, a Yindijbarndi-Ngarluma woman based on the Burrup Peninsula, 2,000km north of us here in Margaret River, Western Australia. And with her permission, keep the songlines active on Margaret River, Wardandi Boodja.
We have been performing for our community and surrounding festivals for the past year. The power of our choir is somatic and offers a deep remembrance and power through song. Our song is one of prayer and healing for the earth and humanity.
Our Conductor Laura, is a passionate Argentinian musician, whose parents were choir conductors in Argentina. Laura has lived and breathed choir her whole life, and with her love for music, women and ancient song, she has birth a powerhouse community choir, full of heart and raw power.
Our songs range from African, Cuban, Spanish, Aramaic, Gaelic, First nations Australian and Native American medicine songs for the audience to sing and feel, prayer to be amplified and received, as well as celebrating Pacha-mama/ Mother Earth.
Our music is touching, uplifting and rousing at the same time and our audiences seem to understand and enjoy the language of our music that transcends the fact that most songs are in other languages than English.
We promise an enjoyable and inspirational evening featuring the well known Fremantle musician Si Mullamby playing his earthy tunes on didgeridoo and percussion to support the choir performance.
